Any time our family travels we always love to visit friends and family. Sometimes that involves going to peoples homes or common meeting places. One of the things I always look for when I come back to a familiar place is, “What is different?” Some things however are always the same. From a historical context we should preserve the past. Things that relate to memories should also be displayed or kept up. However routines and ruts should be evaluated a little more carefully. Often we find ourselves doing something simply because it is how it has always been done. And to be honest, that might just be sustainable for some time. However, what I have often found to be true is there are many ways to do something and sometimes another way is better than what you have always done. Reality is, it is easier to do what we know than to start again or to adjust along the way. But great minds and great organizations move forward despite the desire to leave things the same. Get out of neutral and move forward.
